Composition:

Each tablet contains:

•  Secnidazole — 500 mg

Pharmacological properties

Secnidazole is a nitroimidazole derivative:
1. Has a pronounced antiprotozoal and antianaerobic effect
2. Mechanism of action:
• Damages the DNA of microorganisms
• Leads to the death of cells of protozoa and anaerobic bacteria
3. Has an extended half-life, which allows it to be used once or in short courses

Indications for use:

• Amebiasis (including intestinal and extraintestinal)
• Giardiasis
• Trichomoniasis
• Bacterial vaginosis
• Anaerobic infections sensitive to secnidazole

Method of administration and dosage:

Uretritis and vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis:
Adults: 2 g once before meals.
Intestinal amebiasis: Acute symptomatic amebiasis (histolytic form):
Adults: 2 g once before meals.
Asymptomatic amebiasis (minuta and cystica forms): the same daily dose for 3 days.
Hepatic amebiasis:
Adults: 1.5 g per day in one or more doses before meals for 5 days.
Children over 6 years: 30 mg/kg/day in one or more doses before meals for 5 days
Giardiasis:
Children: 30 mg/kg/day once during one day.
