Active ingredient:
Micronized Albendazole 200 mg per dose.
Excipients:
Lactose monohydrate, maize starch, magnesium stearate, talc, sodium starch glycolate, polyplasidone XL, povidone K25, sodium lauryl sulfate, Opadry II white.
Description:
Alzental is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic containing micronized albendazole.
It is active against a wide range of intestinal and tissue parasites, including nematodes (roundworms), cestodes (tapeworms), and certain protozoa.
Indications for Use:
Primary Indications:
- Echinococcosis (hydatid disease): parasitic infection affecting the liver, lungs, and peritoneum.
- Neurocysticercosis: infection of the brain by the larvae of Taenia solium.
Also indicated for:
- Ascariasis.
- Enterobiasis.
- Hookworm infection (Ancylostomiasis).
- Strongyloidiasis.
- Trichuriasis (whipworm infection).
- Giardiasis.
- Capillariasis.
- Gnathostomiasis.
- Trichostrongylid infections.
- Lymphatic filariasis.
Dosage and Administration:
Take orally with food, accompanied by water.
Do not chew or crush the tablets.
Intestinal worms:
Adults & children ≥2 years: 400 mg single dose.
Strongyloidiasis: 400 mg once/twice daily for 3 days.
Giardiasis: 400 mg daily for 5 days.
Hydatid disease: 400 mg twice daily for cycles of 28 days.
Neurocysticercosis: 400 mg twice daily for 8-30 days.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to benzimidazoles.
Pregnancy.
Galactose intolerance.
Precautions:
Monitor blood counts.
Monitor liver function.
Pregnancy test required.
Risk of bone marrow suppression.
Side Effects:
Common: Abdominal pain, nausea, headache, dizziness.
Rare: Leukopenia, anemia, hepatitis, seizures, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Use contraception during therapy and for 1 month after.
