Composition:

Each tablet contains: Secnidazole — 1 g.

Product Description:

• Secnidazole is a synthetic antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent, a long-acting 5-nitroimidazole derivative.
• Mechanism of Action: Interacts with microbial DNA, causing disruption of its helical structure, strand breakage, inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis, and cell death.
• Spectrum of Activity:
• Antiprotozoal Action: Effective against dysentery amoeba (Entamoeba histolytica), giardia (Giardia lamblia), and vaginal trichomonas (Trichomonas vaginalis).
• Antibacterial Action: Active against anaerobic bacteria (bacteroides, clostridia, gardnerella vaginalis).
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; characterized by a long elimination half-life, providing high effective plasma concentrations and allowing single-dose administration.

Indications for Use:

• Intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis.
• Giardiasis.
• Trichomoniasis.
• Bacterial vaginosis.
• Infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria (as prescribed by a physician).

Method of Administration and Dosage:

• Method of Administration: Oral use, without chewing, taken with a sufficient amount of water, during or immediately after meals.
• Adults:
• Acute Phase / Single Dose: 2 tablets (2 g) as a single dose.
• For Trichomoniasis: Simultaneous administration of a single dose (2 g) by both sexual partners is recommended.
• For Chronic or Severe Forms of Amebiasis and Giardiasis: A regimen of 2 g once daily for 3 days may be used (as prescribed by a physician).

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to secnidazole, other nitroimidazole derivatives, or any of the excipients.
• Organic diseases of the central nervous system.
• Pathological blood dyscrasias (including history).
• Pediatric age (the 1 g dosage is not intended for children).

Precautions:

• Alcohol Compatibility: Consumption of alcoholic beverages and alcohol-containing preparations is strictly prohibited during treatment and for 72 hours following intake (risk of disulfiram-like reaction: flushing, vomiting, tachycardia).
• Simultaneous Partner Treatment: In the treatment of trichomoniasis and urogenital infections, concurrent treatment of the sexual partner is necessary to prevent reinfection.
• Blood Parameter Monitoring: Regular monitoring of peripheral blood counts is recommended during prolonged use or repeated courses.
• Effect on the Nervous System: If neurological symptoms occur (ataxia, dizziness, confusion), treatment should be discontinued.

Adverse Reactions / Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal System: Dysgeusia ("metallic" taste in the mouth), nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, epigastric pain, stomatitis.
• Allergic Reactions: Skin rash, pruritus, urticaria; rarely — angioedema.
• Nervous System: Dizziness, headache, ataxia, paresthesia, impaired motor coordination.
• Hematologic System: Moderate reversible leukopenia.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Pregnancy:
Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy.
In the second and third trimesters, use is permissible only in cases of clear necessity, when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation Period: Secnidazole is excreted into breast milk.
If the drug is required during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment and for 72 hours following completion.

Storage Conditions:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25–30 °C in the original package, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
