Composition:
Each ml of solution contains:
Sodium picosulfate 7.5 mg
Auxiliary components:
Methylparaben sodium, sorbitol 70% liquid, purified water.
Properties:
A laxative of the triarylmethane group, it is activated in the large intestine by bacterial sulfatases; the substance that is released in this case stimulates the sensitive nerve endings of the intestinal mucosa, enhances its motility. The use of the drug is not accompanied by tenesmus and intestinal spasms.
Indications:
- constipation;
- conditions requiring easier bowel movements.
Method of administration and dosage:
Adults take 17-33 drops per day (5-10 mg).
Children over 4 years old take 8-17 drops (2.55 mg) per day.
Contraindications:
- intestinal obstruction;
- acute inflammatory bowel disease;
- acute diseases of the abdominal organs (including acute appendicitis, ulcerative colitis, peritonitis);
- acute abdominal pain, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, which may indicate the acute inflammatory diseases mentioned above;
- abdominal pain of an unknown nature;
-severe dehydration;
- hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate and other components of the drug.
Precautions:
Like other laxatives, Picolax should not be taken daily for long periods of time. If you n to take laxatives on a daily basis, you shoul find out the cause of constipation. Long-term use of laxatives can lead to electrolyte
imbalances and hypokalemia, as well as addiction and constipation due to the rebound effect. Use with caution in elderly people, with hypokalemia, elevated blood levels of magnesium, debilitated patients.
