Properties:

Psyllium is a type of soluble fiber derived from the husks of the psyllium seed that is used as a bulk-forming laxative. Psyllium husk powder, used in dietary supplements taken by mouth to treat occasional constipation and maintain regular bowel movements.

Psyllium is unlike some laxatives that cause contractions of the intestines (like stimulant laxatives) or draw water from the intestine to soften stools (like osmotic laxatives). The husks of the psyllium plant are rich in soluble fiber. This is the type that dissolves in water and turns into a gel, slowing down digestion. This allows the body to absorb more nutrients from food as it passes through the intestines.

Psyllium increases the weight and bulk of stools which, in turn, leads to bowel stimulation. 

Unlike the other laxatives, psyllium is safe and gentle enough to use every day.

Indications:

Dietary supplement used to relieve both constipation and diarrhea, to treat irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids and other intestinal problems

Directions for use:

Take 3 capsules with 8 oz. (236 ml) glass of liquid, 2 to 3 times daily.

Side effects:

If you have any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

difficulty breathing, stomach pain, difficulty swallowing, skin rash, itching, nausea, vomiting.

Contraindications:

-Children’s age

-Pregnancy and breastfeeding

-Liver and kidney dysfunction

-Esophageal stricture (narrowing of the esophagus) or any other narrowing or obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract

-Hypersensitivity to any ingredients
