Composition:
Active ingredients per sachet:
- Sodium chloride - 0.62 g
- Trisodium citrate dihydrate - 0.58 g (equivalent to 0.51 g trisodium citrate anhydrous)
- Potassium chloride - 0.3 g
- Glucose anhydrous - 2.7 g.
Excipients:
Orange flavor, FD&C Yellow No.6, saccharin sodium. Note: Each sachet contains approximately 340 mg sodium.
Description:
Lohydran is a low-sodium oral rehydration powder designed to correct dehydration and electrolyte loss caused by watery diarrhoea.
The combination of glucose and electrolytes enhances water absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, restoring fluid balance effectively.
After reconstitution, it forms a clear orange solution with a mildly sweet-salty taste.
Indications for Use:
Used for:
- Oral correction of fluid and electrolyte loss in infants, children and adults;
- Treatment of watery diarrhoea of various origins including gastroenteritis;
- Prevention and management of mild to moderate dehydration.
Dosage and Method of Administration:
Preparation:
- Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 200 ml of water.
- Use fresh drinking water for adults and children.
- For infants, water must be freshly boiled and cooled.
- Use immediately or store for 1 hour at room temperature/24 hours in a refrigerator.
- Do not boil the prepared solution.
Recommended intake:
- Infants up to 2 years:
150 ml/kg/day (1-1.5 times usual 24-hour feed volume).
Children: 
1 sachet (200 ml) after each loose stool.
Adults: 
1-2 sachets after each loose stool; more may be needed initially to restore fluid balance.
- If vomiting is present, administer small frequent amounts.
- If no improvement is seen within 24-48 hours, medical evaluation is required.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any component.
- Conditions where oral rehydration is inappropriate (e.g., surgical intestinal obstruction).
Precautions:
Do not use without medical supervision:
- In infants below 4 months;
- In children under 2 years;
- In chronic or persistent diarrhoea;
- In liver or kidney disease;
- In diabetes;
- In patients on low potassium or sodium diets;
- In intestinal obstruction.
Always dissolve 1 sachet in exactly 200 ml water to avoid electrolyte imbalance.
Side Effects:
None reported.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Not contraindicated, but use under medical supervision is recommended.
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place.
Store reconstituted solution 1 hour at room temperature or 24 hours at 2-8°C.
Keep in original packaging to protect from moisture.
