Properties:
Trimebutine acts on the enkephalinergic system of the intestine and regulates gastrointestinal motility. By acting on peripheral δ-, μ-, and κ-receptors, including those directly located on the smooth muscles throughout the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), it normalizes motility without affecting the central nervous system. Thus, trimebutine restores the normal physiological activity of intestinal muscles in various gastrointestinal disorders associated with motility disturbances.
By normalizing visceral sensitivity, trimebutine also provides analgesic effects in cases of abdominal pain syndrome.
