Composition:

Empagliflozin 25 mg.

Product Description:

Oral hypoglycemic agent, inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (eGFR).
It promotes the excretion of glucose by the kidneys, improving glycemic control and reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications.

Indications for Use:

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control).
Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults.

Method of Administration and Dosage:

The drug is taken orally, once daily in the morning, regardless of food intake.
Recommended starting dose: 10 mg per day.
If well tolerated, the dose may be increased to 25 mg to achieve additional glycemic control.
Before starting treatment, it is necessary to check kidney function and consult with a physician.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or any of the excipients.
  • Patients on dialysis.
  • Acute nephropathy.
  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus (risk of diabetic ketoacidosis).
  • History of severe allergic reactions (angioedema, anaphylaxis).

Precautions:

Not recommended for use for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus with an eGFR less than 30 mL/min/1.73 m².
Exercise caution and consult a physician in cases of: impaired liver or kidney function, urinary tract infections, pancreatic diseases, alcoholism, difficulty urinating, or heart failure.

Adverse reaction / Side Effects:

Possible adverse reactions include: genital fungal infections, frequent urination, joint pain, hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, or drowsiness.
If signs of an allergy (swelling of the face/tongue, difficulty breathing, severe skin itching) or serious side effects occur, stop taking the drug immediately and seek medical attention.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

The safety of using the drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
