Composition:
Ondansetron — 4 mg
Pharmacological properties
Ondansetron is a selective antagonist of 5-HT₃-serotonin receptors:
1. Antiemetic action
Blocks receptors in the peripheral and central nervous system
Suppresses the gag reflex caused by the release of serotonin
2. Efficiency
Effective against acute and delayed vomiting caused by chemotherapy
Well tolerated and has a rapid effect
Indications for use
Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in:
— Cytotoxic chemotherapy
— Radiation therapy
— Postoperative intervention
Method of administration and dosage
Intramuscular (i/m) or intravenous (i/v)
Usual dose for adults:
— 4–8 mg 30 minutes before chemotherapy or radiation therapy
Postoperative vomiting:
— 4 mg once intramuscularly or intravenously
Repeat doses are possible as prescribed by a doctor
Administration can be either bolus or infusion.
