Properties:
Selgon is a centrally acting cough suppressant, which also has some peripheral effect in unproductive coughs. It begins to act within 10-30 minutes, and its effect lasts for several hours. Selgon has the advantage that it is nonaddictive and also does not cause respiratory depression.
Indications:
Unproductive, irritating and spastic cough; for example, smokers’ coughs and cold symptoms that include an unproductive cough.
Method of administration and dosage:
Children 2-6 years old:
1 suppository 2-3 times a day.
Children 6-12 years old:
1 suppository 3 times a day
Contraindications:
Patients with sugar intolerance.
Precautions:
Selgon can cause drowsiness, therefore, patients who drive vehicles or machinery should be warned.
Side effects:
Drowsiness, nausea, anxiety, insomnia, urticaria.
Storage method:
At a temperature not higher than 25 degrees.
