Composition:
Active ingredient:
Salbutamol Sulphate 2.4 mg (equivalent to 2 mg Salbutamol base) per 5 ml.
Description:
Salbutamol is a selective β2-adrenergic agonist that acts primarily on the smooth muscle cells of the bronchioles to produce bronchodilation with minimal cardiac effects at therapeutic doses.
Indications for Use:
Relief of bronchospasm in reversible obstructive airway diseases.
All types of bronchial asthma.
Chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Suitable for patients with cardiovascular diseases or hypertension.
Can relax uterine smooth muscle.
Dosage and Administration:
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Adults: 4 mg 3–4 times daily. If insufficient, increase to max 8 mg per dose.
Elderly: Start with 2 mg 3–4 times daily.
Children:
Under 2 years: 100 mcg/kg, 4 times daily.
2–6 years: 1–2 mg, 3–4 times daily.
6–12 years: 2 mg, 3–4 times daily.
Over 12 years: 2–4 mg, 3–4 times daily.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity
Thyrotoxicosis
Threatened miscarriage (1st and 2nd trimester).
Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, the elderly, pregnant or lactating women.
Side Effects:
Fine muscle tremors (especially in hands)
Headache
Tachycardia, arrhythmias
Muscle cramps, nervousness, insomnia, behavioral changes in children
Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., urticaria, bronchospasm, angioedema)
Potential hypokalemia.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Use only if benefits outweigh the risks. Likely secreted in breast milk; use with caution during lactation.
