Composition
Each tablet contains:
• Nitrofurantoin — 50 mg
Pharmacological properties
Nitrofurantoin has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against bacteria that cause urinary tract infections:
1. Antimicrobial action:
• Bactericidal effect due to disruption of the synthesis of bacterial proteins, DNA and cell wall
• Active against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria: E. coli, Enterococcus, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus saprophyticus
2. Features of action:
• Maximum concentration is achieved in urine
• Has virtually no effect on intestinal flora
• Develops low resistance of microorganisms
Indications for use
• Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis, urethritis)
• Chronic recurrent UTIs
• Prevention of UTIs during urological interventions or catheterization
Method of administration and dosage
The specific dosage varies depending on the patient's condition, type and severity of the infection.
The usual dose for adults is:
For the treatment of urinary tract infections: 50-100 mg every 6 hours for 4-7 days. It is advisable not to exceed 10 days unless consulted with a doctor.
For the prevention of urinary tract infections: 50-100 mg once in the evening.
For the prevention of infection before surgery: the drug is usually used for 3 days before surgery.
Tablets are taken during meals or with milk - this reduces the risk of side effects from the gastrointestinal tract
Important: not recommended for renal failure, in late pregnancy and children under 1 month. May color urine dark yellow or brown - this is not dangerous.
