Each tablet contains methylprednisolone 16 mg.
Product Description:
Xilopred is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid with anti‑inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and anti‑allergic properties.
It is prescribed for conditions requiring systemic hormonal therapy.
Indications for Use:
- Endocrine disorders such as adrenal insufficiency and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
- Rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile arthritis.
- Autoimmune conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis.
- Severe allergic disorders including rhinitis, bronchial asthma, and serum sickness.
- Dermatological diseases such as pemphigus vulgaris.
- Hematological disorders including idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
- Malignant diseases such as leukemias and lymphomas.
- Gastrointestinal conditions including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
- Other indications include sarcoidosis and tuberculous meningitis (in combination with anti‑tuberculosis therapy).
Method of Administration and Dosage:
The initial dose depends on the specific disease and is determined by the physician.
Maintenance therapy should be the minimal effective dose, taken once daily in the morning or every other day.
Withdrawal must be gradual under medical supervision.
In children and elderly patients, use with caution and at the lowest effective dose.
Contraindications:
Systemic fungal infections, hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or excipients, live vaccination during immunosuppressive therapy, and severe infections without specific treatment.
Precautions:
- Increased susceptibility to bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.
- Endocrine effects include adrenal suppression and Cushing’s syndrome.

Long‑term use may result in adrenal insufficiency.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
During pregnancy, use only if strictly indicated due to risk of fetal growth retardation.
During lactation, methylprednisolone is excreted in breast milk; use with caution.
