Properties:

Gabapentin is a new generation antiepileptic drug that increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels. Reduces the flow of calcium ions, which plays an important role in the occurrence of neuropathic pain. Other mechanisms of action of Gabapentin in neuropathic pain are the reduction of glutamate-dependent neuronal death.

on the first day 100 mg 3 times a day, then 200 mg 3 times a day (second day), then 300 mg 3 times a day (third day). The dose is increased on the 4th day to 400 mg 3 times a day and gradually increased to 2400 mg per day by the third week. The safe daily dose of Gabapentin is 3600 mg given that the total daily dose should be divided into 3 single doses in each case. The first dose should be administered at bedtime to avoid any side effect. In patients with impaired renal insufficiency or those undergoing hemodialysis, dose adjustment is necessary in accordance with the instructions of the physician. Care must be taken when discontinuing the drug with gradual withdrawal by reducing the dose within 7 days.
