Composition:

Mecobalamin(Vitamin B12) 500 mcg

Properties:

Mecobalamin is a synthetic and active form of vitamin B12 that can cross the blood brain barrier without biotransformation, that may be used to treat or prevent vitamin B12 deficiency and its complications. Upon administration, mecobalamin is able to replace endogenous vitamin B12, increase vitamin B12 levels and improve vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is necessary for hematopoiesis, neural metabolism, DNA and RNA production, and carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. It improves iron functions in the metabolic cycle and assists folic acid in choline synthesis. Its metabolism is interconnected with that of folic acid.

Indications:

Cobal is used for peripheral neuropathies (damage to peripheral nerves) and megaloblastic anemia (lower red blood cell) due to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Directions for use:

Adults

• Orally administered 1 tablet 3 times a day (1500 mcg of mecobalamin).
• The dosage should be adjusted according to the age of the patient and severity of symptoms.
• It can be taken anytime of the day and preferably after meals.

The course duration depends on your doctor’s prescription.

• This product should not be used for more than one month unless it is effective.
• You shall not take a double dose to compensate for the forgotten one. Just take the next dose as planned.

Side effects:

Gastrointestinal symptoms: anorexia, nausea, diarrhea may occur infrequently.

Dermatological: Skin rash may occur rarely.

Others: Prolonged use of larger doses of mecobalamin is not recommended for patient whose occupation requires handling of mercury or its compounds.

Contraindications:

• You should not use methylcobalamin if you are allergic to vitamin B12 or any inactive ingredients of Cobal.
• Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

-Leber’s disease or other form of optic nerve damage;

-iron or folic acid deficiency; 

-low levels of potassium in your blood;

-if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

• Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.

Warnings and precautions:

• Follow the dose and duration of treatment prescribed by your medical providers. You must see a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve.
• If the medicine makes you feel sick, dizzy or tired, or gives you a headache, do not drive or use machines and contact your doctor immediately.

• Talk to your doctor or a pharmacist

-if you are taking Metformin, histamine H-2 receptor antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), aminoglycosides, colchicines, aminosalicylic acid, anticonvulsants, neomycin and alcohol, as there might be decreased absorption of vitamin B12;

-if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop;

-if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast-feeding;

-if you have allergies to medicines.

• Keep out of reach of children.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from heat, moisture and light.

Carton box holds 3 strips each of 10 film-coated tablets and paper instructions.
