Betamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroi which has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antipruritic and vasoconstrictor effects. When applied topically, it narrows blood vessels,

eliminates itching, reduces the release of inflammatory mediators (from eosinophils and mast cells), IL-I and IL-2, y-interferon (from lymphocytes and macrophages), inhibits the activity of hyaluronidase and reduces the permeability of the vascular wall. Interacts with specific receptors in the cytoplasm of the cell, stimulates the synthesis of mRNA, which induces the formation of proteins, incl.

lipocortin mediating cellular effects. Lipocortin inhibits phospholipase A2, blocks the release of arachidonic acid and the biosynthesis of endoperoxides, PG, LT (contributing to the development of inflammation, allergies and other pathological processes).

Clioquinol is an antimicrobial agent for external use, a derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline.

Clioquinol is active against dermatophytes and yeasts (Microsporum spp., Trichophyton spp., Candida albicans) and gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus spp.).
