Neurontin

Compound:

Each hard gelatin capsule contains:

Gabapentin – 300 mg.

Auxiliary components:

lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc.

Properties:

Gabapentin is a new generation antiepileptic drug that increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels. Reduces the flow of calcium ions, which plays an important role in the occurrence of neuropathic pain.

Indications:

epilepsy: a) as an additional therapy for the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in adults and children aged 6 years and older; b) as monotherapy for partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. For the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain such as painful diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia in adults.

Mode of application:

peripheral neuropathic pain and epilepsy usually require long-term therapy. The dosage is determined by the attending physician in accordance with individual tolerance and effectiveness. For adults and adolescents, the effective dose is 900 to 3600 mg/day. On the first day, 300 mg 1 time per day, then 300 mg 2 times a day (second day), then 300 mg 3 times a day (third day). Thereafter, the dose is gradually increased to a safe daily dose of 3600 mg per day by the third week. The total daily dose should be divided into 3 single doses in each case, the maximum interval should not exceed 12 hours to prevent breakthrough seizures. The first dose should be administered at bedtime to avoid any side effect. In patients with impaired renal insufficiency or those undergoing hemodialysis, dose adjustment is necessary in accordance with the physician’s prescription. Care must be taken when discontinuing the drug with gradual withdrawal by reducing the dose within 7 days. Children 6 years of age and older: The initial dose should be 10 to 15 mg/kg/day and the effective dose is reached within no more than 3 days. The effective dose in children 6 years of age and older is 25 to 35 mg/kg/day. Doses up to 50 mg/kg/day were well tolerated. The total daily dose should be divided into 3 single doses, the maximum interval should not exceed 12 hours.
