Composition

Active ingredient: Theophylline Anhydrous – 300 mg per tablet

Description

Quibron-T/SR is a sustained-release oral bronchodilator formulated in the ACCUDOSE tablet design. Each tablet is uniquely scored to allow flexible dosing, enabling division into 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg, or full 300 mg doses. It is indicated for long-term management of reversible airway obstruction associated with asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Theophylline helps relax airway smooth muscles and reduce airway responsiveness to irritants.

Indications for Use

Management of symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction in:

Chronic asthma

Chronic bronchitis

Emphysema and other chronic lung diseases

Dosage and Administration

Individualized based on serum theophylline concentrations and patient response

Tablets may be divided into:

One-third tablet = 100 mg

One-half tablet = 150 mg

Two-thirds tablet = 200 mg

One full tablet = 300 mg

Titration should be slow, beginning with a low dose, to minimize side effects

Maitain peak serum levels between 10–15 mcg/mL for optimal effect

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to theophylline or any tablet components

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with:

Active peptic ulcers

Seizure disorders

Cardiac arrhythmias (excluding bradyarrhythmias)

Monitor for interactions that alter theophylline clearance

Regular monitoring of serum levels is recommended

Pregnancy and Lactation

Pregnancy Category C

No adequate studies in pregnant women

Theophylline crosses the placenta

Nursing Mothers:

Excreted in breast milk

May cause irritability or mild toxicity in nursing infants

Side Effects

Common (serum levels <20 mcg/mL): nausea, headache, insomnia, vomiting

Less common but serious (serum levels >20 mcg/mL): arrhythmias, seizures, persistent vomiting

May cause fine tremors, restlessness, irritability, transient diuresis

Elderly or neurologically compromised patients may experience seizures at lower serum concentrations

Storage Conditions

Store in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30°C
