Excipients: Lactose monohydrate — 49 mg, microcrystalline cellulose — 20 mg, sodium carboxymethyl starch (Primogel) — 20 mg, food-grade gelatin — 5 mg, magnesium stearate — 4 mg, colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil) — 2 mg.
Description:
Allopurinol is a medicinal product used for the treatment and prevention of gout and conditions associated with elevated uric acid levels. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is involved in uric acid production. As a result, uric acid and urate levels in the blood are reduced, helping to prevent their deposition in tissues and the kidneys.
In the body, allopurinol is converted to oxypurinol (alloxanthine), which also has uric acid-lowering activity.
Indications:
Treatment and prevention of gout.
Hyperuricemia of various origins.
Urolithiasis associated with urate formation.
Urate nephropathy and certain forms of renal impairment.
Recurrent mixed calcium oxalate kidney stones in the presence of hyperuricosuria.
Increased urate production due to enzyme disorders.
Prevention of acute uric acid nephropathy during cytostatic and radiation therapy for tumors and leukemia, as well as during complete medical fasting.
Method of Administration and Dosage:
The tablets are taken orally after meals with plenty of water. The dosage is determined individually by a physician based on uric acid and urate levels in the blood and urine.
For adults, the usual daily dose is 100–900 mg, depending on the severity of the condition. The daily dose is taken in 2–4 divided doses after meals.
The dosage for children is determined by a physician according to age and body weight. Dose adjustment is required in patients with impaired kidney function. In severe renal impairment, the maximum dose may be 100 mg per day.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to allopurinol or any of the other ingredients.
Severe liver or kidney impairment.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Children under 3 years of age.
Precautions:
Patients with impaired kidney function or disorders of blood formation should use the medicine under regular medical supervision. If a skin rash or other skin reaction occurs, allopurinol should be discontinued immediately and medical advice should be sought.
At the beginning of treatment, an acute gout attack may occur due to the mobilization of uric acid from deposits in the tissues.
