Solpadol
Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Zolmitriptan 5 mg.
Inactive ingredients:
Mannitol, Avicel, Aspartame, Starch, Aerosil, Magnesium Stearate.
Properties:
Zolmitriptan causes vasoconstriction in intracranial blood vessels (including arteriovenous anastomoses) and sensory endings of the trigeminal nerve and release of anti-inflammatory neuropeptides.
Indications:
treatment of acute migraine with or without aura in adults.
Dosage and administration:
The initial dose is 2.5 mg or less.
The dose may be repeated after 2 hours if symptoms persist. The maximum dose is 10 mg per day. Zolmitriptan is taken with or without food.
Contraindications:
hypersensitivity to zolmitriptan. Ischemic heart disease, spasm of the coronary arteries.
Uncontrolled arterial hypertension, previous cerebrovascular accident or transient ischemic attack.
Side effects:
Spasm of the coronary arteries, increased appetite. Impaired liver function and thirst.
Rare were anorexia, constipation.
Drowsiness, paresthesia, myalgia, muscle weakness, fatigue.
Palpitations, angina pectoris, headache, urticaria.
Drug interaction:
antidepressants increase the toxicity of triptans to the CNS. The combination with ergot alkaloids increases the risk of developing vasospasm. Cimetidine inhibits the metabolism of zolmitriptan.
Pregnancy and lactation:
safe use during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
Warnings and precautions:
Recommended as monotherapy and should not be taken concomitantly with other treatments for acute migraine.
The drug should be used only when a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established. Feelings of tightness, pain, pressure and heaviness in the atrium, throat, neck and jaw were noted after treatment with Solpadol tablets. Patients who experience signs or symptoms indicative of angina pectoris and patients who experience other symptoms or signs indicative of decreased arterial blood flow, such as ischemic bowel syndrome or Raynaud’s syndrome, should be monitored by ECG if dosing is resumed and similar symptoms recur.
With caution prescribed for patients with impaired liver function, with epilepsy or convulsions.
This drug is intended to relieve a migraine attack, not to prevent or reduce the number of attacks.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, protected from light and out of reach of children.
