Composition:
Each 5 ml of reconstituted suspension contains:
Nitazoxanide - 100 mg.
Inactive ingredients:
Avicel RC 591, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate Dihydrate, Citric Acid Anhydrous, Xanthan Gum (fine powder), Sucrose, Maltodextrin, Starch 1500, Strawberry Flavor, FD&C Red (Allura Red).
Description:
Nitazode is an antiprotozoal medication indicated for the treatment of diarrhea caused by Giardia lamblia or Cryptosporidium parvum.
It contains
nitazoxanide, a synthetic antiprotozoal agent that interferes with the metabolism of sensitive protozoa, leading to their elimination.
Indications for Use:
Treatment of diarrhea caused by:
- Giardia lamblia
- Cryptosporidium parvum.
Dosage and Method of Administration:
Shake well before each use.
Preparation of Suspension:
Measure 48 mL of water.
Tap the bottle until all powder flows freely.
Add about half of the water, shake vigorously.
Add the remaining water and shake again until uniform.
Keep tightly closed and shake before each dose.
Recommended Dosage:
1-3 years: 5 mL (100 mg) every 12 hours with food (duration 3 days)
4-11 years: 10 mL (200 mg) every 12 hours with food (duration 3 days)
≥12 years: 25 mL (500 mg) every 12 hours with food (duration 3 days).
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to nitazoxanide or any component of the formulation.
Precautions:
- Consult a physician before use if you have chronic illness, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are taking other medications.
- Safety and efficacy not established in HIV-infected or immunodeficient patients.
- Discontinue use if adverse reactions occur.
Side Effects:
May include:
- Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, reflux;
- Headache, dizziness;
- Dyspnea;
- Rash or urticaria;
- Chromaturia (discoloration of urine).
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.

It is not known whether nitazoxanide is excreted in human milk.
Caution is advised for nursing mothers.
Storage Conditions:
Before reconstitution: store below 25 °C.
After reconstitution: store below 25 °C for up to 7 days.
Keep out of reach of children.
Packaging:
Carton box containing one 60 ml bottle of powder for oral suspension, a measuring cup, and a package insert.
