Amebazole 1 gm 2 tablets

Composition:

Each tablet contains:

Secnidazole 1 g

Properties:

Secnidazole has a bactericidal effect against most anaerobic bacteria and many protozoa.

Indications for use:

• intestinal amebiasis
• hepatic amebiasis
• urogenital trichomoniasis

Dosage and method of administration:

(It is advisable to take the dose with meals)

• for acute intestinal amebiasis (1 day of treatment):

-Adults: 2 tablets (2g) as a single dose

-Children: 30mg/kg as a single or divided dose.

• with hepatic amebiasis (treatment within 5 days):

-Adults 1.5 g as a single dose/day

-Children 30 mg/kg day as single or divided doses

• with urogenital trichomoniasis:

-2 tablets (2g) as a single dose

Contraindications:

-increased sensitivity to imidazole derivatives

• Contraindicated in pregnancy.
• During treatment, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Side effects:

-Some gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, and a metallic taste in the mouth

• Moderate leukopenia, which subsequently disappears.

-Rarely – dizziness, impaired coordination of movements, ataxia, paresthesia

Drug interactions:

-It should be avoided during the treatment of drinking alcohol.

• Secnidazole should not be taken with warfarin or any other anticoagulant, as it increases the risk of bleeding, or under the close supervision and supervision of a healthcare professional.

cimetidine as it increases blood levels of Secnidazole

Precautions:

-Avoid drinking alcohol during treatment

-Do not take at the same time as disulfiram
