Xiclav 1 g is a combined broad-spectrum antibiotic used for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, which together enhance the antibacterial effect and prevent bacterial resistance.
Composition:
• Amoxicillin — 875 mg
• Clavulanic acid — 125 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamases — enzymes that destroy amoxicillin. This allows the drug to be effective even against resistant bacterial strains.
Indications for use:
• Upper respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis)
• Lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections.
Method of administration and dosage:
Always take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended dose for adults and children weighing 40 kg or more:
• One Xiclav 1 g tablet (containing 875 mg amoxicillin and 125 mg clavulanic acid) twice daily.
Use in children:
• Children under 6 years of age should preferably receive Xiclav as a suspension.
• Xiclav 1 g tablets are not suitable for children weighing less than 25 kg.
• The decision to use it in children weighing less than 40 kg should be made by a physician.
Patients with impaired kidney function:
• Dose adjustment may be required in moderate renal impairment.
• Xiclav is not recommended in severe renal impairment.
Patients with impaired liver function:
• Use Xiclav with caution in patients with liver impairment; regular liver function monitoring is recommended.
