Composition:

Each tablet contains: Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride — equivalent to 250 mg of ciprofloxacin.

Product Description:

• Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone class.
• Mechanism of Action: Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting DNA replication and transcription, which results in a bactericidal effect and cell death.
• Spectrum of Activity: Active against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Neisseria, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, and others.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, penetrates well into most tissues and body fluids, and is excreted primarily by the kidneys unchanged and as metabolites.

Indications for Use:  

• Urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis).
• Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia).
• Skin and soft tissue infections.
• Gastrointestinal infections (including salmonellosis, shigellosis).
• Genital and pelvic infections (gonorrhea, prostatitis).
• Inhalational anthrax (post-exposure prophylaxis and treatment).

Method of Administration and Dosage:

• Method of Administration: Oral use, swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water, 1–2 hours before meals or 2 hours after meals.
• Adults: 250–750 mg twice daily (every 12 hours), depending on the severity and location of the infection.
• Duration of Treatment: 3 to 14 days (may be extended for complicated infections as directed by a physician).
• Dose Adjustment: Reduced dosage is required for patients with severe renal impairment.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any excipients.
• Concomitant administration with tizanidine.
• Children and adolescents under 18 years of age (except for specific approved indications).
• History of tendon disorders or ruptures related to fluoroquinolone treatment.

Precautions:

• Drug Interactions: Avoid simultaneous intake with antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc supplements, dairy products, or mineral-fortified juices, as they significantly decrease ciprofloxacin absorption (maintain an interval of at least 2 hours).
• Risk of Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture: Discontinue treatment immediately at the first sign of pain or inflammation in tendons.
• Photosensitivity: Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and ultraviolet light during therapy.
• Central Nervous System Effects: Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or a history of CNS disorders.

Adverse Reactions / Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal System: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia.
• Central Nervous System: Headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances (insomnia), fatigue.
• Allergic Reactions: Skin rash, pruritus, urticaria.
• Musculoskeletal System: Arthralgia, myalgia, tendinitis.
• Laboratory Parameters: Transient elevation of liver enzymes.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Pregnancy:
Contraindicated (risk of arthropathy in the fetus).
Lactation Period:
Ciprofloxacin is excreted in human milk.
Breastfeeding must be discontinued during treatment.

Storage Conditions:

Store below 25°C in the original package, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
