Composition:

Povidone‑Iodine 1% w/v (equivalent to 0.1% available iodine).
Excipients: purified water and stabilizers.

Product Description:

Betadine Mouthwash & Gargle is a broad‑spectrum antiseptic solution for oral and pharyngeal use.
It kills bacteria, fungi, spores, yeasts, protozoa, and viruses.
It is designed to relieve sore throat symptoms, disinfect the oral cavity, and promote oral hygiene.

Indications for Use:

  • Infected inflammatory conditions of the mouth and throat: stomatitis, gingivitis, aphthous ulcers, pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
  • Monilial (fungal) infections.
  • Common colds and influenza (symptomatic relief).
  • Prophylaxis during and after dental or throat surgery (e.g., tonsillectomy).
  • Routine oral hygiene.

Method of Administration and Dosage:

  • Route: Oral, as a gargle and mouthwash.
    Do not swallow.
  • Adults and children over 6 years: Dilute with an equal volume of warm water.
    Gargle or rinse with up to 10 ml for 30 seconds.
  • Frequency: Up to 4 times daily, for up to 14 consecutive days, or as directed by a physician.
  • Not recommended for children under 6 years.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to iodine, povidone, or excipients.
  • Thyroid disorders (nodular colloid goiter, endemic goiter, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).
  • Concurrent lithium therapy.
  • Before, during, or after radio‑iodine administration.
  • Use with mercury‑containing products.
  • Children under 6 years of age.

Precautions:

  • Avoid prolonged use beyond 14 days.
  • May interfere with thyroid function tests.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Remove dentures or braces before use to avoid discoloration.
  • Avoid concurrent use with silver, hydrogen peroxide, or taurolidine products.

Adverse Reactions / Side Effects:

Local irritation, burning, or hypersensitivity.
Rare: thyroid dysfunction with prolonged use.
Possible discoloration of teeth or dental appliances.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Iodine crosses the placenta and is secreted in breast milk.
Regular use during pregnancy is not recommended unless no alternative exists.
Use only under medical supervision.

Storage Conditions:

Store below 25 °C.
Protect from light.
Keep out of reach of children.
