Properties:

Drotaverine reduces the flow of ionized active calcium into smooth muscle cells by inhibiting phosphodiesterase and intracellular accumulation of cyclic AMP. Lowers the tone of smooth muscles of internal organs, reduces their motor activity, dilates blood vessels. Does not affect the autonomic nervous system, does not penetrate the central nervous system. Due to the direct effect on smooth muscles, it can be used as an antispasmodic in cases where drugs from the group of anticholinergics are contraindicated (angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma).

Indications:

Spasm of smooth muscles of internal organs: renal colic, biliary colic, biliary dyskinesia and gallbladder hyperkinetic type, intestinal colic; pyelitis, cholecystitis; spastic constipation, spastic colitis, proctitis, tenesmus; pylorospasm, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum (in the acute phase, as part of complex therapy), pain syndrome with spasms of peripheral arterial vessels (endarteritis), cerebral vessels, coronary arteries; algomenorrhea, threatening miscarriage, threatening premature birth; spasm of the pharynx of the uterus during childbirth, prolonged opening of the pharynx, postpartum contractions. For some instrumental studies, cholecystography.

Dosage and administration:

1-2 tablets 1-3 times a day.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity, cardiogenic shock, arterial hypotension, angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma, severe liver and kidney failure, lactation period, children under 3 years of age.

Precautionary measures:

In the treatment of peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, it is used in combination with other antiulcer drugs.
