Composition:

Ceftriaxone sodium 1,192 mg equivalent to ceftriaxone 1 g

Solvent: Each 1 ml contains Lidocaine HCL for injection 10 mg

Properties:

CEFAXONE 1GM INJECTION contains ceftriaxone which is a second-generation cephalosporin that interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall by binding to specific binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall. This leads to breaking down the cell wall of the bacteria and reducing its stability, thus causing cell damage, and eventually causing bacterial elimination.

Indications:

-Bacterial meningitis

-Community acquired pneumonia

-Hospital acquired pneumonia

-Acute otitis media

-Intra-abdominal infections

-Complicated urinary tract infections

-Infections of bones and joints

-Complicated skin and soft tissues infections

-Gonorrhoea

-Syphilis

-Bacterial endocarditis

Celaxone may be used: 

-For treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults 

-For treatment of disseminated Lyme borreliosis (early (stage 2) and late

 (stage 3) in adults and children including neonates from 15 days of age 

-For Preoperative prophylaxis of surgical site infections 

-In the management of neutropenic patients with fever that is suspected to be due to a bacterial infection 

-In the treatment of patents with bacteraemia that occurs in association with, or is suspected to be associated with, any of the infections listed above -Cefaxone should be co-administered with other antibacterial agents whenever the possible range of causative bacteria would not fall within its spectrum. Consideration should be given to official guidelines on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents. 

Dosage and administration:

CEFAXONE 1GM INJECTION will be given to you intramuscularly only by a doctor or a nurse. Your doctor will administer the right dose depending on your age, body weight and severity of the infection.

Side effects:

Common: Abnormalities with white blood cells (such as a decrease of leukocytes and an increase of eosinophils) and platelets, Diarrhea, Thrombocytosis, Leukopenia, Headache, Dizziness, Changes in liver function

Uncommon: Anaemia, Nausea and vomiting, Pruritus (itching sensation), Increased blood creatinine levels, Fungal infections, Decrease in white blood cells (granulocytopenia), Blood clots (pain and swelling of your joints), Pain or a burning feeling along the vein, Fever

Rare: Bronchospasm (breathing difficulty), Haematuria (blood in urine), Glycosuria (glucose in urine), Chills, Inflammation of colon, signs include diarrhoea, usually with blood and mucus, Lumpy rash (hives), feeling itchy and swelling, Oedema (fluid build-up)

!Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

-Sudden swelling of the face, throat, lips, or mouth. this can make it difficult to breathe or swallow

-Severe rash that develops quickly, with blisters or peeling of the skin and possibly blisters in the mouth

-Widespread rash, high body temperature, liver enzyme

-Elevations, blood abnormalities (eosinophilia)

-Enlarged lymph nodes and other body organs involvement

-Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction which causes fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and skin rash

Warning and Precautions:

  • Consult your doctor before receiving this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or handle any heavy machines if you experience dizziness or light headaches while receiving cefaxone injections.

Consult your doctor before receiving this medicine if you have any liver or kidney diseases, if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Ceftriaxone or to any other ingredients of this medicine, colitis, haemolytic anaemia, or you are on a low sodium diet.

Storage:

Store at a room temperature, out of reach of children.
