Betadine Mouth and Throat Gargle Solution 120 ml

Composition:

Povidone‑iodine 1%.
Other Ingredients:
Glycerin, sodium saccharin, ethanol, sodium hydroxide, methyl salicylate, menthol, purified water.

Product Description:

  • An antiseptic and disinfectant solution. 
  • Upon contact with skin and mucous membranes, iodine is released from the povidone complex, forming iodamines with microbial proteins, causing coagulation and cell death. 
  • Provides rapid bactericidal action against gram‑positive and gram‑negative bacteria (except Mycobacterium tuberculosis), and is also active against fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
  • Has a longer duration of action compared to inorganic iodine solutions.

Indications for Use:

Gargling for mouth and throat infections.

Method of Administration and Dosage:

Use undiluted solution for gargling for 30 seconds, repeat every 3–4 hours. 
For daily oral rinsing, dilute with two parts of warm water.

Contraindications:

  • Hyperthyroidism.
  • Thyroid adenoma.
  • Heart failure.
  • Chronic renal failure.
  • Dermatitis herpetiformis (Duhring’s disease).
  • Concurrent use of radioactive iodine.
  • Premature and newborn infants.
  • Children under 8 years (ointment for external use).
  • Pregnancy and lactation.
  • Hypersensitivity to iodine or other components.

Precautions:

  • Discontinue use if adverse reactions occur.
  • Presence of blood or pus may reduce antimicrobial activity.
  • Not for insect or animal bites.
  • Consult a physician if systemic reactions appear.
  • Application leaves a colored film that persists until iodine is fully released; disappearance indicates end of activity.
  • Do not heat before use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Adverse Reactions /Side Effects:

  • Allergic reactions.
  • Local: hyperemia, burning, itching, swelling, pain.
  • Systemic: iodine absorption when applied to large wound areas or mucosa may cause neutropenia, altered thyroid function tests.
  • Prolonged use (more than 7–10 days) may lead to iodism (metallic taste, increased salivation, eyelid or laryngeal edema).

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Contraindicated.

Storage Conditions:

Store at temperatures not exceeding 30 °C, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Packaging:

Cardboard box containing a 120 ml bottle and leaflet.
