Active Ingredients:

Each Tablets contains Ivabradine (5 mg).

Description:

Procoralan is a medicine that contains the active substance ivabradine.

Cardiovascular agent used in the treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, sinus tachycardia and stable angina.

Symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris in coronary-artery-disease patients with normal sinus rhythm. 

Ivabradine is indicated:

in patients unable to tolerate or with a contra-indication to the use of beta-blockers;

or in combination with beta-blockers in patients inadequately controlled with an optimal beta-blocker dose and whose heart rate is > 60 beats per minute (bpm).

Treatment of chronic heart failure

Ivabradine is indicated in chronic heart failure New York Heart Association II to IV class with systolic dysfunction, in patients in sinus rhythm and whose heart rate is ≥ 75 bpm, in combination with standard therapy including beta-blocker therapy or when beta-blocker therapy is contraindicated or not tolerated.

This Medicine is indicated for Hypertension.

Procoralan is used to treat the symptoms of long-term stable angina (pains to the chest, jaw and back, brought on by physical effort) in adults with coronary artery disease (disease of the heart caused by the obstruction of the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle) who have a normal heart rhythm. It is used in patients who cannot be treated with beta‑blockers (another type of medicine to treat angina) or in combination with beta‑blockers in patients whose disease is not controlled with them alone and whose heart rate is at least 70 beats per minute.

Dosage & Administration:

Dosage is decided by your doctor.

The recommended starting dose is 5 mg twice a day, which the doctor may increase to 7.5 mg twice a day or decrease to 2.5 mg twice a day depending on the patient’s heart rate. 

If the heart rate decreases during treatment to between 50 and 60 beats per minute, the dose of 5 mg twice daily should be maintained. The adjustment is made after three to four weeks in long-term stable angina and after two weeks in long-term heart failure. 

In patients over 75 years old, a lower starting dose of 2.5 mg twice a day can be used.

For angina, the starting dose should never exceed 5 mg twice daily in patients under 75 years of age. Treatment must be stopped if the heart rate decreases persistently below 50 beats per minute or if symptoms of bradycardia (slow heart rate) continue. When used for angina, treatment should be stopped if there is no improvement in symptoms after 3 months and the doctor should consider stopping treatment if the improvement in symptoms or the reduction in the heart rate is only limited.

Side Effects:

Some of the following side effects may occur:

Cough. 

Diarrhea or constipation. 

Dizziness or lightheadedness. 

Erection problems. 

Feeling nervous. 

Feeling tired, weak, drowsy, or a lack of energy. 

Headache. 

Nausea or vomiting.

The most common side effect with Procoralan (seen in more than 1 patient in 10) is luminous phenomena or ‘phosphenes’ (a temporary brightness in the field of vision).

Contraindication:

Procoralan must not be used in patients who have a resting heart rate below 70 beats per minute,  very low blood pressure,  various types of heart disorder (including cardiogenic shock, rhythm disorders,  heart attack,  unstable or acute (sudden) heart failure and unstable angina) or severe liver problems. 

It must not be used in women who are pregnant, breast-feeding or by women who could become pregnant and who are not using appropriate contraceptives.
