Trade Name:
Candalkan 4 mg.
Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Candesartan cilexetil 4mg.
Inactive ingredients:
croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, starch.
Properties:
Candalkan is an angiotensin type 2 receptor antagonist and therefore an antihypertensive agent. It blocks type 1 angiotensin receptors, which leads to suppression of the effects of type 2 angiotensin (vasoconstrictor effect, stimulation of aldosterone synthesis and cell growth, regulation of water-salt metabolism). The antihypertensive effect is associated with a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance without an increase in the heart rate. The drug does not inhibit angiotensin-converting enzymes. Does not affect other receptors or ion channels.
Indications:
Arterial hypertension, heart failure (used as an additional therapy to ACE inhibitors, or in cases of their intolerance).
Mode of application:
The drug should be taken orally, regardless of food intake, 1 time per day. With arterial hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose, regardless of age, is 8 mg per day, in some cases – 16 mg. For persons with mild to moderate liver or kidney damage, the initial dose is 2 mg. The maximum antihypertensive effect is achieved within a month from the start of treatment. In heart failure, Candalkan should be taken at 4 mg per day at the beginning of treatment, thereafter the dose can be doubled every 2 weeks (up to 32 mg per day).Candalkan is effective when used simultaneously with other drugs for chronic heart failure – beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, cardiac glycosides and diuretics. In the elderly and patients with impaired renal function, no adjustment of the initial dose of the drug is required.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, pregnancy and lactation, children under 18 years of age, cholestasis, severe liver failure.
Warnings and Precautions:
The drug may adversely affect kidney function. In case of renal insufficiency, their performance should be monitored regularly. The use of Candalkan can cause renal artery stenosis, hypotension (in case of myocardial insufficiency). If surgery and the use of anesthetics are planned, the risk of hypotension should be taken into account. When a daily dose of 32 mg does not give the desired effect, consult your doctor about the advisability of using the drug.
Side effects:
The drug is usually well tolerated. Frequent side effects – weakness, dizziness, headache, cough, rhinitis, pharyngitis, increased incidence of respiratory infections, abdominal pain, back pain; edema, pronounced decrease in blood pressure, impaired renal function, angioedema, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, nausea, myalgia, urticaria, pruritus, rash.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, out of the reach of children.
