Tradename:
Kandalkan 16 mg.
Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Candesartan cilexetil – 16mg.
Auxiliary components: croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, starch.
Properties:
Kandalkan – is a type 2 angiotensin receptor antagonist and, therefore, an antihypertensive agent. Blocks type 1 angiotensin receptors, which leads to suppression of the effects of type 2 angiotensin (vasoconstrictor effect, stimulation of aldosterone synthesis and cell growth, regulation of water-salt metabolism). The antihypertensive effect is associated with a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance without an increase in the heart rate. The drug does not inhibit the angiotensin-converting enzyme. Does not affect other receptors or ion channels.
Indications:
arterial hypertension, heart failure (used as an adjunct therapy to ACE inhibitors, or in cases of intolerance).
Mode of application:
the drug should be taken orally, regardless of the meal once a day. In arterial hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose, regardless of age, is 8 mg per day, in some cases – 16 mg. For persons with mild to moderate liver or kidney damage, the initial dose is 2 mg. The maximum antihypertensive effect is achieved within a month from the start of treatment. In heart failure, Kandalkan should be taken at 4 mg per day at the beginning of treatment, subsequently the dose can be doubled every 2 weeks (up to 32 mg per day). Kandalkan is effective when used simultaneously with other drugs for chronic heart failure – beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, cardiac glycosides and diuretics. In old age and in patients with impaired renal function, adjustment of the initial dose of the drug is not required.
Contraindications:
hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, pregnancy and lactation, children under 18 years of age, cholestasis, severe forms of liver failure. Precautions: the drug may negatively affect renal function. In case of renal failure, their performance should be regularly monitored. The use of Kandalkan can cause renal artery stenosis, hypotension (in case of myocardial insufficiency). If surgery and the use of anesthetics are planned, the risk of hypotension should be considered. When a daily dose of 32 mg does not give the desired effect, consult your doctor about the appropriateness of using the drug.
Side effects:
the drug is usually well tolerated. Frequent side effects – weakness, dizziness, headache, cough, rhinitis, pharyngitis, increased frequency of respiratory infections, abdominal pain, back pain; edema, marked decrease in blood pressure, impaired renal function, angioedema, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, nausea, myalgia, urticaria, pruritus, rash.
Storage method:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30C, out of reach of children.
