Composition: 

Active ingredient:
Azathioprine 50 mg per tablet. 

Product Description: 

Azathioprine is an immunosuppressive medication belonging to the class of purine analogues.
It works by inhibiting purine synthesis, thereby reducing the activity of the immune system.
It is commonly used to prevent organ transplant rejection and to treat autoimmune diseases.

Indications for Use: 

Prevention of organ transplant rejection.
Treatment of autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Other immunosuppressive indications as directed by a physician.

Method of Administration and Dosage: 

Administer orally, with or without food.
Dosage is individualized based on indication, patient response, and tolerability.
Typical adult dose ranges from 1–3 mg/kg daily.
Dose adjustments may be required in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.

Contraindications: 

Hypersensitivity to azathioprine or any excipients.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Severe hepatic impairment.
Known deficiency of thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT).

Precautions: 

Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment.
Monitor blood counts regularly due to risk of bone marrow suppression.
Avoid live vaccines during treatment.
Risk of increased susceptibility to infections and malignancies.

Adverse Reactions / Side Effects: 

Common: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite.
Hematological: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia.
Hepatic: elevated liver enzymes, hepatotoxicity.
Rare: hypersensitivity reactions, pancreatitis, severe bone marrow suppression.

Pregnancy and Lactation: 

Contraindicated. Azathioprine may cause foetal harm and is excreted in breast milk.
Safety in pregnant women has not been established.
