Mupirax 2% Topical antibacterial ointment 30 g

Composition:

Mupirocin — 20 mg per 1 g ointment.

Description:

Mupirax is a topical antibacterial ointment containing mupirocin, an antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (both methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant strains — MRSA) and Streptococcus pyogenes.
It provides strong antibacterial protection, helps prevent secondary infections, and promotes healing of damaged skin.

Indications for Use:

• Treatment of primary and secondary superficial skin infections.
  
• Treatment of impetigo, folliculitis, and furunculosis caused by S. aureus (including MRSA) and S. pyogenes.
  
• Treatment of burn wound infections caused by MRSA.
  
• Treatment of infected wounds and lacerations.

Dosage and Method of Administration:

Apply to the affected area up to three times daily for up to 10 days.
The treated area may be covered with a sterile dressing or occlusive material if desired.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or to other ointments containing polyethylene glycol.
Not suitable for ophthalmic or intranasal use.

Precautions:

Avoid contact with eyes when applied to the face.
Use with caution on open wounds or damaged skin, as polyethylene glycol may be absorbed and excreted renally; caution is advised in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment.

Side Effects:

Mupirax is generally well tolerated.
Occasionally, mild local reactions such as burning, stinging, or itching may occur.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; animal studies have shown no teratogenic effects.

Storage Conditions:

Store at room temperature (not exceeding 25°C).
Keep out of reach of children.
