Composition

Each tablet contains:

•  Topiramate — 100 mg

Pharmacological properties:

Topiramate is a derivative of sugar-containing sulfamates, which has a wide spectrum of anticonvulsant activity:
1. Anticonvulsant action:
• Suppresses sodium channels of neurons
• Enhances the activity of GABA — the main inhibitory neurotransmitter
• Blocks excitatory receptors (AMPA/kainate)
• Reduces the activity of carbonic anhydrase, which helps reduce neuronal excitability
2. Additional effects:
• Has an anti-migraine effect
• May affect appetite and body weight

Indications for use:

• Partial and generalized seizures (convulsive and non-convulsive)
• Treatment of primarily generalized tonic-clonic seizures
• Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (as part of complex therapy)
• Prevention of migraine attacks in adults.

Method of administration and dosage:

• Treatment usually begins with 25–50 mg/day with a gradual increase in dosage
• Maintenance dose: 100–200 mg per day, divided into 2 doses
• Tablets can be taken regardless of food intake, with water
• Dosage adjustment is necessary in case of renal failure.
