Composition:
Each 5 ml after reconstitution contains:
Active Ingredients:
Amoxicillin trihydrate micronized (equivalent to amoxicillin anhydrous 600 mg)
Potassium Clavulanate (equivalent to clavulanic acid 42.90 mg).
Description:
Clavimox 642.9 mg/5 ml is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.
It is effective against infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Indications for Use:
Clavimox is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in children (≥3 months, <40 kg):
- Acute otitis media
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibiotics.
Dosage and Administration:
Dosage is based on amoxicillin/clavulanic acid content.
Factors such as the pathogen, infection severity, patient age, weight, and renal function should be considered.
- Children <40 kg (≥3 months):
Recommended dose: 90/6.4 mg/kg/day in two divided doses.
- Renal Impairment:
No dose adjustment is required if creatinine clearance >30 ml/min.
Use is not recommended if clearance is <30 ml/min.
- Hepatic Impairment:
Use with caution, with regular hepatic function monitoring.
For oral administration.
Take at the start of a meal to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort and optimize absorption.
Shake bottle before adding water to the indicated level.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins, or beta-lactam antibiotics
- History of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis)
- Liver dysfunction associated with previous amoxicillin/clavulanic acid use.
Precautions:
- Assess for penicillin allergy before use.
- Serious allergic reactions may occur, particularly in atopic patients.
- Avoid use in suspected infectious mononucleosis due to rash risk.
- Long-term use may lead to superinfection.
- Hepatic dysfunction is more common in elderly patients.
- Consider pseudomembranous colitis in cases of diarrhea.
- Monitor prothrombin time in patients on anticoagulants.
Side Effects:
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
Uncommon: Headache, dizziness, indigestion
Rare: Skin rash, urticaria, erythema
Very rare: Anaphylaxis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 25°C.
Refrigerate reconstituted suspension and use within 7 days.
