Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Levofloxacin hemihydrate - 768.69 mg (equivalent to 750 mg levofloxacin).
Inactive ingredients:
Microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, sodium stearyl fumarate, crospovidone, Opadry II white.
Description:
Broad-spectrum antibacterial agent from the fluoroquinolone class. Used to treat respiratory, urinary, skin, and soft tissue infections, as well as post-exposure inhalational anthrax and plague.
Works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to bacterial cell death.
Indications for Use:
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Community-acquired pneumonia (5–14 days)
- Complicated and uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections
- Chronic bacterial prostatitis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Inhalational anthrax (post-exposure)
- Plague
- Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis.
Dosage and Administration:
- Adults: 250-750 mg orally once daily, depending on infection severity and renal function.
- Swallow a tablet whole with water, with or without food.
- Pediatric patients: dose calculated by body weight, see leaflet.
- Individual regimens for prophylaxis or treatment of inhalational anthrax and plague.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolones
- Age under 18 (except for specific indications)
- Pregnancy and lactation (unless benefits outweigh risks)
- History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
Precautions:
- Caution in elderly and patients receiving corticosteroids
- Monitor renal function and blood glucose in diabetics
- Risk of photosensitivity and phototoxicity
- May exacerbate muscle weakness in myasthenia gravis
- Monitor for neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions.
Side Effects:
Common: nausea, headache, diarrhea, insomnia, constipation, dizziness.
Less common: arthralgia, myalgia, tendinitis, peripheral neuropathy, psychiatric disorders, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, photosensitivity, hypersensitivity reactions, hepatic dysfunction, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- Contraindicated in pregnancy unless benefits outweigh risks.
- Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place.
Keep out of reach of children.
